Faced with high unemployment and limited infrastructure, the Somelo village needed targeted support to improve living conditions and economic resilience. In response, in 2022 our AUMS team launched a poultry initiative that included the installation of solar-powered water pumps and tanks – providing reliable access to clean water and enhancing community health and safety. With local community members actively involved, the project now provides over 300 eggs each week – providing the village with a sustainable food source and generating future revenue through egg sales. By equipping the village with skills, resources, and market access, the project has strengthened local economic resilience, delivering benefits that extend well beyond the life of our involvement. In recognition, the initiative was honoured with the Established ESG Leader for a Services Provider Award at the 2024 Australia-Africa Minerals and Energy Group (AAMEG) awards, celebrating the dedication of our team and the Somelo community in driving meaningful change through collaboration and sustainable practices.
